Switch to lower fuel bills

Big London Energy Switch

As the weather turns colder and thoughts start turning towards putting

on the heating, now is the time to consider if you are paying over the odds

for your energy bills.

All Bexley residents are being encouraged to join in the 'Big London Energy Switch' over the next few weeks to find out if they can save money on their energy bills.

All you need to do is register details of your current bills online and IChoosr, will do the rest! They are arranging an on-line energy auction on 16 October, inviting all the main energy providers to offer their cheapest tariffs to everyone who has registered for the scheme.

Once the winning bids are announced, those people registered will receive an e-mail outlining the deals being offered and they can then decide whether to take them up or not. There is no obligation to switch supplier and nothing to lose by registering. Residents who do not have access to the internet can contact the London Borough of Bexley for advice on how to register for the scheme.

Cllr Chris Taylor, Cabinet Member for Adults' Services said: "We know that many people are trying to keep their costs as low as possible. This is one way of helping our residents to help themselves. By coming together as one big group they stand a better chance of being offered a more competitive rate on their energy bills."

In April nearly 1,600 Bexley residents came together in search of a better deal on their gas and electricity supplies. iChoose, ran the auction for London Councils and the winning bids were made by Sainsbury's Energy, British Gas and Scottish Power.

Those interested in taking part in the auction on 16 October are invited to register online now at

Update to this release: Bexley Residents now have until 18 November to sign up. The auction will take place on 19 November.
