BEHIND THE SCENES

Working alongside Miss Cusselle, our main PE and Sports Leader, we have a very trusty team of children involved in making sure that sport at Hillsgrove is thriving...

Sports Councillors:

The Sports Council is made up of one boy and one girl from each year group, with all classes putting forward one representative. The children chosen to act as councillors were voted in by their fellow classmates. The Sports Council and Miss Cusselle meet at least once every half-term to discuss a wide range of matters involving PE and School Sport. The information discussed at the meeting is then fed back to all the individual classes through their Sports Councillor and the rest of the class have the opportunity to give their views and opinions. These are written down and brought back to the next meeting to ensure that every child’s voice has been heard. By working together and through listening to everyone’s opinions, the Sports Council hopes to continuously improve PE and Sports at Hillsgrove.

Little Leaders:

The Little Leaders are made up by a team of Year 4 children who are dedicated to making lunchtimes fun and active for the children in EYFS and KS1. Once they have eaten their own lunches, the Little Leaders go out into the KS1 playground where they set up and lead a variety of activities for the younger children. Activities range from throwing and catching, to jumping and running, as well as dribbling and skipping. The main focus of the Little Leaders is to make sure the younger children are having lots of fun whilst keeping active.

Marathon Marshalls:

Without our committed Marathon Marshalls, we would have no Marathon Kids! The Marathon Marshalls give up 15 minutes of their lunchtime to hand out lap bands to all children taking part in Marathon Kids and also to ensure all children stay on the correct path (there is no cutting corners under their watchful eyes)! Each Marathon Marshal works a 15-minute shift and then hands the responsibility on to the children who are next on duty. They are all doing a superb job and if the Olympics were to come back to London, they would all certainly be chosen as Games Makers!

Change4Life Champions:

Our Change 4 Life club is targeted at children in both Years 3 & 4 and is mainly comprised of children who do not currently attend an extra-curricular sports club in or out of school. Our aim is for children who attend this club to discover the enjoyment that can be had when playing sport and to also feel a sense of belonging to a club. Change4Life club takes place on a weekly basis and is run by the children, for the children. Most of our Change4Life Champions have previously taken part in the club and therefore, they have lots of fun ideas and activities that they involve the children in.

‘Tekkers’ Trainers:

Our ‘Tekkers’ Trainers have been carefully selected by Miss Cusselle and other members of staff to help support children in KS2 during lunchtimes to learn new skills. The Tekkers Trainers are all mini specialists in their own sports and there to give a helping hand to children who want some advice on how to improve their technique in different sports. Any child can go to a Tekkers Trainer for advice and they will help as much as they can. Our Tekkers Trainers are also very handy at knowing all of the different rules associated with various sports, so are great at refereeing different games in the playground, such as basketball, tennis and football.
