The Governors of Hillsgrove Primary School made a decision in February 2015 to apply to become an academy as part of a local Multi Academy Trust with St Paulinus CE, Holy Trinity Lamorbey CE and Old Bexley Primary Schools.
Academy schools are directly funded by the Department for Education and are independent of direct control by the local authority. They still have to follow the same rules on admissions, special educational needs and exclusions as other state schools but enjoy greater autonomy. The change in status to being part of the Trust provides the school with new opportunities and increased freedom, particularly in the current context of austerity, through collaboration, shared vision and values, responsibility and accountability. This helps to ensure continued improvement and security within a local autonomous Trust of equal partners, by growing leadership capacity, sharing expertise and effective resourcing. The governors were mindful of their public sector equality duty arising from the Equality Act 2010 and worked with the Trust in the development of all final proposals to mitigate the likelihood of any adverse impact.
On September the 1st 2015 Hillsgrove formally became an Academy as part of the Amadeus Academy Trust.
